Kotlas

   Kotlas is a city in Arkhangelsk region, Russia. It situated on the bank of the Northern Dvina River, approximately 600 km

from Arkhangelsk. It was founded in 1890 and was granted city status in 1917. The city has a population of 59,200.
   Today, Kotlas has a diversified economy, contributing to the fields of timber industry, railway industry, transport.

The city is served by the river port and Kotlas Airport.
   Tourism is not a major factor in the economy of the city. Kotlas has only one hotel “Sovietskaya”. The more interesting

place to visit when touring this region is Solvychegodsk.
   Higher educational facilities include a branch of the Arkhangelsk State Technical University. Kotlas has two colleges.
   The city is notably absent from the Orthodox Church that dominates religion in Russian Federation.
